UPDATE: 12:54 p.m. — Thanks to FHP for providing us with the following details. Fortunately, injuries are not life threatening:
V01-Semi Tractor Trailer. V02-Sedan. V03-Pick up Truck. Driver 1 Male/40 yoa. Driver 2 Male/21 yoa. Driver 3 Male/ 28 yoa.
Vehicle-01 (V-01) was traveling southbound on Interstate 95 (State Road 9) south of State Road 798 (Palmetto Park Road) in the outside center lane of the general-purpose lanes. Vehicle-02 (V02) was traveling southbound in the inside center travel lane of the general-purpose lanes south of Palmetto Park Road. Vehicle-03 (V-03) was traveling southbound in the outside travel lane of the general-purpose lanes south of Palmetto Park Road. For an unknown reason the Driver (D-01) of V-01 lost control of V-01. As a result, V-01’s front left side in the outside collided with V-02’s right side in a side swipe. After collision with V-02, the D-01 lost control of V-01 and ran off the roadway right, V-01’s right side collided with the concrete barrier and the FDOT entrance ramp traffic signal. V-01 was redirected back towards the southbound lanes where V-01 flipped on to its left side. V-03 could not stop in time for V-01. Consequently, V-03 front portion collided with the left side of V-01. V-01 remained at final rest on it’s side in the outside lane and the apex. V-02 and V-03 were moved from final rest to the outside paved shoulder
UPDATE: At 9:37 a.m., the scene is starting to clear and traffic is resuming normal flow.
BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A major crash on I-95 in Boca Raton is snarling traffic nearly two hours after it was first reported. Stay off of I-95 in the area of Palmetto Park Road if you are heading southbound this morning.
FDOT tells BocaNewsNow.com that the major crash was first reported around 6:30 a.m. and apparently involved an overturned tractor trailer. Three lanes were blocked and appear to still be blocked as the morning rush continues. Traffic is backed up past Glades Road with the notable exception of the express lanes. The bad news: you can’t (legally) enter the express lanes in that area, and if you use them without a carpool or HOV sticker, it may be very, very expensive.
We know nothing about injuries at this point, nor do we know how long FHP believes the situation will continue. Your best bet: get off of I-95 at Atlantic. and work your way over to either Powerline/Jog and head south, head over to the Turnpike, if you’re really feeling adventurous, head over to U.S. 441 and head south until at least Hillsboro Boulevard, then move back east.
We’ll update this post just as soon as we have more information from Florida Highway Patrol.
