BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A crash in Pompano Beach in early October that left one person dead is now under investigation by the Broward Sheriff Office’s Traffic Homicide Unit. BSO made the announcement Tuesday and provided the following statement to BocaNewsNow.com:
“According to detectives, around 8:13 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, the driver of a 2008 Ford Mustang, Jose Garcia Pelaez, was traveling eastbound on West Atlantic Boulevard within the 2300 block. At the same time, the driver of a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu, Chris Cherenfant, was traveling westbound on West Atlantic Boulevard and preparing to make a left turn onto Walmart Drive. As the driver of the Malibu made the left turn, the Mustang struck the Malibu on the passenger side in a T-bone style collision. The Mustang continued travelling eastbound where it rolled over, causing a passenger in the vehicle, Margarita Ortuno Cruz, to be ejected.
Paramedics transported Cruz to Broward Health North where she was pronounced deceased. The drivers of both vehicles and another passenger in the Mustang were also transported to Broward Health North with injuries not expected to be life-threatening.”
