BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Coconut Creek police officer is being honored for saving a life after the Boca Raton Police Department put out an alert that a suicidal man may be at a hotel in the Coconut Creek jurisdiction. The City of Coconut Creek shared this announcement with BocaNewsNow.com:
“A lot of things had to go exactly right, and in the exact order, to put Officer Johnson in front of a door at the Hampton Inn last September with a chance to save a life. Chief Hofer and Deputy Chief Cabrera presented her with a Lifesaving Award during last Thursday’s City Commission Meeting.
The call came from the Boca Raton Police Department on the night of September 17th that they were looking for a suicidal man who might be in Coconut Creek. Officer Johnson’s investigation led her to the Hampton Inn off North State Road 7 where she found his car. She checked with the hotel and, sure enough, he had checked into a room a little while earlier. He seemed surprised when Officer Johnson knocked on his door because he was literally right in the middle of planning his death.
He told her that, had she not have been there, he was working up the courage to climb to the hotel roof and jump. Officer Johnson got there just in time. After finding his car and his room number in just enough time to save him.
She got him the help he needed and prevented a decision in which there was no turning back. Great work Officer Johnson!”
