FHP Provides BocaNewsNow.com With Early Incident Report. Here’s What Happened…

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — One man standing next to his Dodge Ram pickup truck was killed on I-95 early Friday morning near Congress Avenue. The fatal crash — which involved four vehicles — stopped or slowed traffic on I-95 northbound for nearly six hours. BocaNewsNow.com first reported on the crash, and the traffic problems, shortly after the crash.
With thanks to Florida Highway Patrol for keeping the public informed, we are publishing the early police report that FHP provided to us late Friday afternoon. The vehicle types are followed by the descriptions of the people involved. We do not have a name at this point of the deceased man. Everything that follows is from the report provided by FHP:
Location: Northbound Interstate 95 (State Road 9) approximately 0.50 miles south of State Road 807 (Congress Avenue) Boca Raton Florida
Vehicle 1 – 2003 GMC YUKON
Vehicle 2 – 2016 Ford Transit
Vehicle 3 – 2024 KIA Niro EV
Vehicle 4 -2003 Dodge Ram 1500
Persons involved:
Driver of Vehicle 1 (D-1) – Male, 60 YOA: Pompano Beach, no injuries
Driver of Vehicle 2 (D-2) – Male, 63 YOA; Fort Lauderdale, no injuries
Driver of Vehicle 3 (D-3) – Male, 47 YOA; North Lauderdale, no injuries
Pedestrian 01 (P-1) – Male, 24 YOA; West Palm Beach, Florida (Fatal Injuries; NOK was notified)
V-4 was parked upon the center lane of northbound Interstate 95 (State Road 9) south of Congress Ave. P-1, the original driver of V-4, was standing upon the inside center lane of northbound Interstate 95 south of Congress Ave, directly to the left of V-4. V-1 was traveling north upon the center lane of northbound Interstate 95 approaching the direct rear of V-4. D-1 observed V-4 and maneuvered V-1 to the left in order to avoid a collision. V-1 avoided V-4 and entered the inside center lane. The front of V-1 collided with P-1. Post collision, P-1 was propelled in a northwesterly direction where he came to rest upon the inside shoulder of northbound Interstate 95. Post collision with P-1, V-1 traveled in a northwesterly direction. V-1 exited the roadway to the left, traveled through the paved shoulder and entered the grass median.
The front of V-1 collided with a guardrail and came to rest. V-2 was traveling north upon the inside center lane of northbound Interstate 95 approaching the location of V-4. V-3 was traveling north upon the center lane of northbound Interstate 95 adjacent to V-2. D-3 observed V-4 stopped and maneuvered V-3 to the left into the inside center lane. Subsequently, the left side of V-3 collided with the right side of V-2. V-3 did not have enough clearance and the front right of V-3 collided with the rear left of V-4. Post collision, V-4 remained in the center lane of Interstate 95. Post collision with V-2 and V-4, V-3 was driven to a controlled stop on the inside shoulder. Post collision with V-3, V-2 was redirected in a northwesterly direction. V-2 traveled into the inside shoulder, where it drove over P-1. V-2 came to rest facing north upon the grass median. P-1 came to final rest in the grass median in a supine position facing east. This is still an on-going investigation P-1 succumbed to his injuries on scene and was pronounced deceased at 5:54 AM.
