PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A young woman lost a foot Thursday morning in a lawnmower accident, according to sources familiar with the emergency response. Paramedics were called to the scene around 9:30 a.m. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue confirmed that it took place in the Verona Lakes community in West Boynton Beach.

According sources speaking with BocaNewsNow.com, the woman came into contact with the lawnmower while it was on. It’s unclear whether she tripped, whether the lawnmower malfunctioned, or what led to her foot entering the area of the lawnmower where the blades were turning. Rescue professionals found the woman bleeding profusely. They also found her detached foot. Rescuers attempted to control the bleeding as they rushed her to Delray Medical Center — the area’s trauma hospital.

We’ve learned that the woman is in her 30s. She is expected to survive. We do not know if the woman was working for a landscaping company, mowing the lawn at her own home, or the specific circumstances of the accident. We are awaiting an update from local authorities.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says an estimated 37,000 Americans are injured this year while operating lawnmowers, while 75 people are killed in riding mower accidents each year. It was not immediately known if this accident involved a riding mower, or a lawnmower that is pushed.
