BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Everyone is safe but charges are pending against the driver of a vehicle that ended up in a canal near the intersection of Spanish River and Military Trail around 6:30 p.m. Saturday. BocaNewsNow.com learned multiple people saw the car end up in the water.
Boca Raton Fire Rescue rushed to the scene with Boca Raton Police. While we don’t have specifics yet on exactly what happened, we note that a Wellington woman was arrested and charged with DUI just after the time of the reported incident and in the same area.
Amira Shiwraj, 19, of Galleria Street in Wellington, was arrested at 3800 North Military Trail in Boca Raton at 7:35 p.m. She is charged with “enhanced DUI.” Police say she provided breath alcohol samples yielding .197 and .190. The legal limit in Florida is .08. Shiwraj was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail at 12:13 a.m. and remained locked up until someone posted a $1000 bond for her around 5:35 a.m.
The vehicle she was driving is identified by police as a white 2024 Kia utility vehicle. If that is in fact the vehicle driven into the canal, it’s unclear if the vehicle remains in the canal this morning, or if it was removed Saturday night. We’ll update this article once the arrest report for Amira Shiwraj is processed by the Palm Beach County Clerk of Courts.
