BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A group of approximately twenty migrants came ashore this morning in Pompano Beach and Lighthouse Point, according to sources connected with the law enforcement operation. We are awaiting official word from the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Those familiar with the situation tell BocaNewsNow.com that one of the migrants said they were on a white vessel before ending up in the water during the overnight hours. They apparently swam for up to eight hours and ultimately made it to land around 7 a.m. They came ashore in various locations, including just South of Sample Road and near an area Whole Foods or Publix.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office dispatched multiple deputies to the area as a chopper hovered overhead. The United States Coast Guard and United States Customs and Board Protection also worked the scene. We are told up to 19 migrants of Hispanic and Asian descent are in custody, as well as a Hispanic getaway driver.
We will update this post once we receive official word from local or federal law enforcement.
