PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — If you drive without a seatbelt, or place your young child in the car without a legal car seat, beware: the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office will stop you and cite you. The agency launched a massive operation on Tuesday and shared the results with BocaNewsNow.com.
According to the agency, PBSO issued 12 criminal citations, 167 traffic citations, and 88 traffic warnings during the enforcement operation which only ran between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. More operations may be announced. Here’s how PBSO described the detail:
“The purpose of this operation is to conduct high-visibility, zero-tolerance enforcement of all Florida State Statutes regarding seat belt usage and child safety restraints. Another part of this campaign is to educate the public on the dangers of not wearing a seatbelt or securing a child in a properly installed car seat and safety belt.”
The seatbelt and car seat operation came on the heels of another major operation involving school zones. That took place on Monday. During the full day focus on just a handful of schools, the agency issued six criminal citations, 87 traffic citations, and 55 traffic warnings. Here’s how PBSO described the school initiative:
“This operation focuses on various school zones across Palm Beach County, aiming to enforce state laws regarding speeding and aggressive driving. Additionally, it serves as an educational campaign to raise public awareness about the dangers of excessive speed and aggressive driving behaviors.”
