UPDATE at 4 p.m. — Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, holding an afternoon news conference via Zoom from a pre-planned vacation in North Carolina, said that a woman in an SUV apparently overcompensated while passing another vehicle and slammed into three PBSO Motor Officers in a median on Southern Blvd. Two were killed. A third remains in critical condition. The deputies were in the median dealing with a PBSO motorcycle that was having some sort of starting problem. The Deputies were waiting for other deputies to show up with a new battery when the crash ocurred. It is not believed the woman was under the influence. It’s unclear how fast she was driving.

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Two Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputies were struck and killed around 9:30 a.m. on Southern Boulevard in far western Palm Beach County. The deputies were apparently on a traffic detail when it happened. We have learned from sources that a dark colored SUV struck the deputies and fled the scene.
First Responders tell BocaNewsNow.com that several motorcycles — presumably police motorcycles — were struck. Multiple deputies were hit.
BocaNewsNow.com has tracked multiple Trauma Hawk flights in and out of the area over the past 90 minutes. The Broward Sheriff’s Office also sent at least one chopper to the scene. Helicopters from other jurisdictions were put on standby. Police are said to be gathering at St. Mary’s Medical Center as at least one additional deputy was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Southern Boulevard is CLOSED west of Seminole Pratt Whitney Road. We are awaiting updates from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. This is a developing story.
