Boynton Beach Police Department detectives arrested a Boynton Beach man Wednesday afternoon in connection with the shooting death of 43-year-old Brandon Rahming on Nov. 15. Rodney Lorenzo Askins, 50, was charged with first-degree murder with a firearm. The United States Marshals Service assisted with the arrest.

Shortly after the 1:45 p.m. shooting near the intersection of Northeast 12th Avenue and 2nd street, BBPD officers encountered Askins, who matched a witness’ description of the shooter. He was carrying a small amount of crack cocaine in his pocket, for which he was arrested. Officers later served a search warrant at his home, where they found two firearms and an array of ammunition. Detectives also recovered a hat and bicycle that matched the description of those of the shooter.

Rahming, who lives in the 100 block of Northeast 13th Avenue, is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail.
