BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The alleged DUI driver accused of striking and killing Boca Raton resident Felipe Moraes while he rode his bicycle early Sunday on Ocean Boulevard had just been released from the Broward County Jail on a drug charge.
Thomas Vayianos was arrested by the Broward Sheriffs’ Office on December 7th. He was charged with smuggling a controlled substance, possessing a controlled substance, and failure to leave private property. Documents obtained by BocaNewsNow.com reveal that Vayianos was arrested in the area of 100 Fairway Drive in Deerfield Beach.
If records are correct — and we caution that sometimes they are not updated promptly — Vayianos was released from the Broward Jail on $300 bond shortly after his arrest. Days later, allegedly while under the influence of something, he would smash into Felipe Moraes, a father of young children and a devoted husband. The fatal crash occurred early Sunday in the 1400 block of Ocean Boulevard. Read our previous coverage.
Vayianos, a former news videographer who appears to have briefly worked for a search engine optimization firm in Boca Raton months ago, is listed as a New Jersey resident. He remains held without bond in the Palm Beach County Jail. He is charged with DUI Vehicular Homicide and other offenses.
