The man, believed to be in his 20s, was working on a roof in the 1300 block of West Royal Palm Road. That is just south of Palmetto Park Road and east of I-95. The man was found on the ground with what witnesses say was a significant fracture. It wasn’t immediately clear what was fractured or whether the bone was seen protruded through the skin.
Boca Raton paramedics transported the man to Delray Medical Center, the area’s trauma center. Witnesses say he was conscious as he was being placed in the ambulance.
It was not clear what led to the fall or whether he was using any sort of safety harness that would have slowed the fall. According to the bureau of labor statistics, roughly 120 roofers die each year from falls. There are roughly 7,000 injuries involving roof work each year.
