BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Coral Springs man is in custody after he allegedly struck and killed another man on a scooter, then tried to flee the scene of death in Uber. The Broward Sheriff’s Office and Coconut Creek Police nabbed Jacques Malik Mayfield of Coral Springs and charged him in the death of Lokesley Myrthill. Here’s what BSO shared with BocaNewsNow.com:

“Just before 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies in Pompano Beach responded to a crash near the 3000 block of Copans Road. The preliminary investigation revealed Jacques Malik Mayfield was driving a white Audi Q7 traveling westbound on West Copans Road, just west of Blount Road. At the same time, the operator of a Volpam electric scooter was traveling westbound just east of the bicycle lane on West Copans Road. According to BSO’s Traffic Homicide detectives, the Audi entered the path of the scooter causing the two vehicles to crash and the scooter operator to slam into the windshield of the car.

The operator was thrown in a southwesterly direction before coming to a rest on the roadway. Detectives said Mayfield continued driving west until the 3600 block when he and passengers in the Audi stopped the vehicle and fled on foot. With the assistance of the Coconut Creek Police Department, Mayfield and one of his passengers were located attempting to enter an Uber. They were swiftly detained. The scooter operator was pronounced deceased on scene.
