DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A December murder in Delray Beach has led to the U.S. Marshal’s Service and Delray Beach Police arresting a local man Thursday afternoon. The City of Delray Beach issued this statement Thursday night:

“The Delray Beach Police Department, in collaboration with the U. S. Marshals Service, has made an arrest in connection to the fatal shooting that occurred on December 23, 2024, at the Bi-Lo Market, located at 24 NW 8th Ave. James Jones, 39, was apprehended Thursday afternoon in Delray Beach by U. S. Marshals. Jones will be charged with the murder of 30-year-old Timmy Hayes.

On the morning of December 23, officers responded to reports of gunfire at the Bi-Lo Market and discovered Hayes suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Preliminary findings indicated that this was a targeted attack, and there was no ongoing threat to the community. Surveillance footage obtained from the scene provided key evidence that assisted investigators in identifying Jones as the suspect. Jones faces a charge of first-degree murder.”
