Around 5:55 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 4, police responded to the report of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle in the 2700 block of West Atlantic Boulevard. BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue arrived on scene and located an adult female who was transported to Broward Health North where she was pronounced deceased a short time later.
The preliminary investigation., according to detectives, revealed the pedestrian was walking northbound across West Atlantic Boulevard when she was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound. Witnesses advised detectives that after the crash, the vehicle, which is believed to be a dark colored sedan, stopped. A male driver exited the vehicle and acknowledged the pedestrian lying on the roadway. The driver then got back into the sedan and fled northbound on Powerline Road from West Atlantic Boulevard.
