BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Please pardon our editorial comments for a moment as we share that one of the nicest, smartest, highly educated law enforcement professionals that we’ve ever met was just sworn in for his second term as Sheriff of Broward County. Dr. Gregory Tony continues to lead the agency which is one of the largest in the United States. We’ve worked with Sheriff Tony for years. Our experience is that he is a fierce advocate for his officers, his employees, law enforcement in general, and doing whatever it takes to keep the public safe and informed. The agency provided this recap of his swearing-in, and we are happy to run it:
On Jan. 7, 2025, Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony, the 17th sheriff of Broward County, was sworn in for a second term. With hundreds of people in attendance, the Honorable Judge Julio Gonzalez administered the oath of office. The ceremony was held Tuesday afternoon at Bailey Hall on the campus of Broward College in Davie. Many of the program participants talked about the significant progress made under Sheriff Dr. Tony’s administration and thanked him for his leadership, mentorship and commitment to keeping Broward safe.
“Today, I had the honor of reaffirming my oath to serve and protect the people of Broward County. This moment is deeply meaningful for me, as it reflects my commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our community. Together, we continue working toward a safer, stronger future for all. Thank you for your trust and support – it’s a privilege to lead alongside the incredible men and women of BSO. Let’s keep building on the progress we’ve made, always putting our community first,” Sheriff Dr. Tony said. Broward voters re-elected Sheriff Dr. Tony on Nov. 5, 2024, to lead the 5,500 employees of the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
BSO is one of the largest full-service public safety agencies in the nation, providing law enforcement services to 12 cities, including the county’s unincorporated areas and fire rescue services for nine contract cities. The agency provides law enforcement services to the county courthouses and provides both law enforcement and fire rescue services to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Port Everglades.

BSO administers vital countywide regional support services, including K-9, SWAT, marine patrol, training division, bomb detection and aviation. It also manages the four county jails and 911 intake and dispatch services for nearly all Broward County municipalities.
