Police say Santo Martinez Varela is in the United States illegally. He’s been charged with assaulting a teenage girl in Palm Beach County.

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Sunday says detectives nabbed a man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a child. The man, according to police, was in the United States illegally. Here’s the official statement provided by PBSO to BocaNewsNow.com:

“On January 11, 2025, detectives identified and located a male suspect matching the description of the suspect wanted for sexual assault. An immediate DNA search warrant was obtained, confirming the suspect’s identity. The suspect, Santo Martinez Varela, was subsequently arrested and booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on the charges listed below.

Through the investigation, detectives determined that Martinez Varela had crossed the Mexican border illegally in 2023 from Honduras, traveling to West Palm Beach without any contact with Border Patrol or law enforcement authorities.”

Varela is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail without bond. He lists the 6000 block of Sherwood Glen Way in West Palm Beach as his home address. It was not immediately clear if any federal agency will be attached to the case following the revelation that he allegedly entered the United States illegally.
