PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — One child is dead and another critically injured after police say they crashed into each other on bicycles, then fell into the roadway only to be run over by a tractor trailer. The incident happened around 4 p.m. on Thursday near the intersection of Lyons Road and Twig Road in Lake Worth. That’s just outside Woodlands Middle School. Police confirmed the death to BocaNewsNow.com Friday morning.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office says Landon Coggin, 13, of San Fratello Circle in Lake Worth, was riding with Elias Angel of Blistering Way in Lake Worth. Coggin was killed, Angel was rushed to Delray Medical Center where he remains in critical condition. This is the narrative provided by PBSO:

“The driver of (a tractor trailer) was traveling northbound on Lyons Road in the area of Twig Road. The bicyclists were also traveling northbound on Lyons Road on the east shoulder of the roadway. The bicyclists crashed into each other causing the bicycles, and the riders, to overturn onto the roadway and into the path/under the rea of the tractor trailer’s trailer.

As the crash ensued, the rear passenger side tires of the trailer traveled over both bicyclists. As a result of the crash, Landon Coggin died from his injuries. Elias Angel was transported to Delray Medical Center where he is being treated for serious injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the tractor trailer DID NOT contribute to the causation of this crash.”

There has been no official statement from the Palm Beach County School District regarding the crash. It was not immediately clear of Coggin and Angel attended Woodlands Middle School or Dr. Joaquin Garcia High School which is also on Lyons Road near the scene of the fatality.
