BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The bridge that spans the Intracoastal waterway along Palmetto Park Road is stuck in the down position. The malfunction was first reported around 4 p.m. It remains stuck more than an hour later. Traffic backups are significant.

Witnesses in the area contacting BocaNewsNow.com say that westbound traffic is backed up all the way to the ocean. Eastbound traffic is backed up well into the city limits of Boca Raton. Boca Raton Police are on the scene, although they have not issued an official advisory concerning the bridge malfunction. It was not immediately clear what caused the problem, although malfunctions are not rare when it comes to any bridge that spans the intracoastal in Palm Beach County.

The Palmetto Park Road bridge is stuck in the down position as of late afternoon Sunday.

Your best bet is, unsurprisingly, to avoid Palmetto Park Road east of I-95. Unless you absolutely need to use Palmetto Park Road, we advise heading south to Camino Real, then returning to your eastbound route until you cross the waterway. Our guidance is the same for westbound traffic. Your alternative is heading north to Spanish River Boulevard and crossing the intracoastal there. We will update this post once we receive an “all clear” from the City of Boca Raton.
