UPDATE: Man Dies After Medical Situation.
UPDATE @ 11:40 a.m. — While the situation is still being investigated, police tell us that it appears the man suffered a medical emergency while walking. Despite heroic efforts by Boca Raton Fire Rescue Paramedics, the man later died. It appears that he was NOT struck by the bridge and merely suffered a medical problem at roughly the same time the bridge was closing. That may have led witnesses to believe that the bridge caused the medical problem. Our understanding is that they are two unrelated events.
UPDATE @ 11:24 a.m. — The Boca Inlet Bridge has reopened, according to Boca Raton Police. We are awaiting details of what actually transpired. Check back for updates.
BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A man required emergency medical care Sunday morning after possibly being hit on the head by part of the Boca Inlet Bridge in the area of 1100 South Ocean Boulevard. That man then suffered a cardiac issue on the scene.
The bridge remains closed as of 10 a.m. Sunday. While those familiar with emergency response suggest that the incident started with a bridge “incident” which knocked the man to the ground where paramedics found him and started emergency care, it was not completely clear if witnesses may have combined two unrelated events. Some providing information to BocaNewsNow.com suggest that the man fell to the ground near the bridge as it was closing, but that the bridge never made contact with the man.
The Boca inlet Bridge is now closed, according to the Boca Raton Police Department which issued a traffic advisory. Both the man and woman were rushed to Boca Raton Regional Hospital for treatment. A huge number of pedestrians and bikers were apparently in the area at the time of the incident around 9:30 a.m.
