A grenade may have been found at a senior living facility in Boca Raton.

UPDATE 1:17 p.m. — Boca Raton Police confirm our reporting and add this statement: “we responded to investigate a suspected grenade. Members of our EOD (Bomb) Team determined it was not a live grenade and BRPD will dispose of it at the woman’s request.”

UPDATE: 1:07 p.m. — In one of the most bizarre emails we’ve ever received, Boca Raton Fire Rescue seems to deny that it was involved in this call, even though multiple Boca Raton Fire Rescue units were sent to the scene, roads were closed, and the situation has been confirmed by management of St. Andrews Estates.

UPDATE @ 12:55 p.m. — A spokesperson for the community says a resident was cleaning out her husband’s old items and discovered what appeared to be a grenade. She delivered it to the security person on duty in the community’s guard house. That person called 911. Boca Raton Fire Rescue and Boca Raton Police ultimately gave the ‘all clear’ after determining the device was harmless. While roads were closed in the area, there was never a lockdown or evacuation. We thank St. Andrews Estates for the update.

UPDATE @ 12:22 p.m. — It sounds as if the rescuers are starting to clear the scene. We are awaiting an official update from Boca Raton Fire Rescue. Roads are reopening at this time.

UPDATE @ 11:51 a.m. — Boca PD now confirms traffic is stopped in the area. Expect closures at Pond Apple Road and Colony Drive.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Boca Raton Fire Rescue, a hazardous materials unit, and Boca Raton Police are all responding to the report of a grenade at the guard gate of St. Andrew’s Estates North. That’s located at 6152 North Verde Trail. Expect significant police and fire activity in the area as everyone tries to figure out what’s happening.

BocaNewsNow.com has learned that an on-duty guard — in the community’s guard shack — was apparently given the grenade shortly before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. We stress that it’s unclear if this is a live grenade, something that looks like a grenade, or nothing that is of any concern whatsoever. We are publishing now due to the expected extreme law enforcement and fire rescue presence that is converging on the scene.

No one has been injured. There is no report of an evacuation at this time. There are no lockdowns. 6152 Verde Trail is between Powerline Road and St. Andrews Blvd., south of Glades Road. It is just west of the Boca Raton Town Center Mall.

Check back for updates.
