>>“On the above date and time, I responded to a call regarding a dog locked inside a vehicle at 525 Lake Ave, City of Lake Worth Beach, Palm Beach County. Upon arrival, I observed the vehicle, a silver Chevrolet Equinox, bearing Florida tag number XK80U, parked in direct sunlight. The vehicle was not running, and the windows were cracked slightly only on the front passenger and driver side doors. The vehicle sunroof was ajar. I observed a small dog inside the vehicle. The vehicle was parked in direct sunlight, and the current temperature at the scene was 76 degrees Fahrenheit with a UV index of 6. The dog was visibly panting and appeared distressed. There was no food or water visible inside the vehicle, and the animal showed signs of being overheated.

It was unknown how long the dog was left inside the vehicle. I used my baton to unlock the vehicle from the inside via the door handle. Upon opening the door, I immediately removed the dog from the vehicle. The dog immediately relieved itself on the sidewalk, which further indicated distress. I placed the dog in my vehicle, utilizing the air conditioning to cool the animal down. The dog was warm to the touch, consistent with being left inside an unattended vehicle under the conditions described. I observed the dog’s name tag (Daisy), which displayed the owner’s phone number.

I contacted the owner, identified as Jacqueline Darr, and instructed her to return to her vehicle immediately. Jacqueline Darr arrived at the scene and admitted that she had knowingly left her dog inside the vehicle while she was at the Irish Pub with her boyfriend. Based on the aforementioned facts, including the environmental conditions, the dog’s distress, and the owner’s admission, I had probable cause to believe that Jacqueline Darr knowingly and recklessly subjected the animal to conditions likely to cause it unnecessary suffering, constituting a violation of Florida Statute 828.12, Animal Cruelty. Jacqueline Darr was placed under arrest for Animal Cruelty.”<<

Darr was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail and later released on $1,000 bond. A court date is pending.
