The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office has launched a “safe space” initiative.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Safe spaces are appearing all over Palm Beach County, thanks to an initiative from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. The goal: protect everyone from hate crimes. PBSO issued this advisory to BocaNewsNow.com:

>>Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office ANNOUNCES Safe Place Initiative. In our ongoing commitment to combat all forms of hate crimes, we proudly introduce the Safe Place Program across Palm Beach County. This initiative assures that any individual who is a victim of a hate crime can find immediate safety and support. Just look for the rainbow star decal in the windows of participating businesses—these establishments are safe havens.

Upon entering, victims can rest assured that the staff will call 911, and they can wait safely for deputies to arrive. Joining the Safe Place Program is completely free for businesses. To become a part of this vital community initiative, simply visit http://www.pbsosafeplace.org, click on “Join Safe Place Initiative,” and complete the application. A PBSO Liaison will then deliver your decal, signifying your commitment to safety and inclusion. Together, we can create a safer community for everyone.<<

PBSO continues to grow this initiative across the unincorporated areas that it services. Note that cities (Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach) have their own police departments and may offer their own “safe space” programs.

  1. How does this protect people from hate crimes? The “crime” has already been committed. Look for an increase in reported “hate” crimes that have no merit. A solution looking for a problem.

    1. Stanley, by your logic, no one should ever report any crimes as the crime has already been committed. Seems like you’re more against places where marginalized groups can feel safe.
