BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Boca Raton man is accused of beating a dog with a metal trailer hitch. The dog, “Gypsy,” is being cared for by medical professionals. Gabriel Martinez of Boca Rio Road in Boca Raton is being held on an Animal Cruelty charge. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office provided this narrative to BocaNewsNow.com:
>>Upon returning home from work, the victim discovered his dog, Gypsy— a four-year-old female pit bull — lying on the ground, whimpering and bleeding. A subsequent investigation revealed that the victim’s roommate, Gabriel Martinez, had repeatedly struck Gypsy with a metal trailer hitch and ball.

Gypsy was promptly taken to Animal Care and Control (ACC) for medical attention. The ACC veterinarian diagnosed her with severe injuries, including a broken paw and multiple limb fractures, bone contusions, and abdominal bruising. Medical tests confirmed that these injuries resulted from acute blunt force trauma.

The veterinarian noted that Gypsy was in significant pain and suffering, and she faces long-term health issues, potentially including the loss of her injured limb.

Surveillance footage captured Martinez assaulting Gypsy with the trailer hitch for a duration of four minutes and eighteen seconds. Martinez was arrested and charged with aggravated animal cruelty. The trailer hitch was seized as evidence. Following treatment, Gypsy was placed on pain management medication and is currently recuperating at home. The case has been cleared by arrest.<<
Gabriel Martinez is being held on $5,000 bond as of Wednesday afternoon. He was arrested on March 28th. PBSO announced the arrest on April 2nd.
