BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A bicyclist found on the side of North Dixie Highway in Pompano Beach is leading to a number of questions for detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Among them: how did the bicyclist end up on the side of the road, and what — if anything — does the person on the scooter know about it? Both were captured by surveillance cameras in the area. BSO issued this statement to BocaNewsNow.com:
>> Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit are releasing surveillance video in hopes of learning what led up to a man injured and lying on the side of a roadway.
According to investigators, around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, BSO deputies in Pompano Beach responded to a call of a possible hit-and-run in the 3000 block of North Dixie Highway. When deputies arrived on scene, they located an adult male lying on the side of the roadway. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded and transported the subject to Broward Health North to be treated for his injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the 69-year-old man was riding a bicycle northbound on Dixie Highway. At some point, he was found unresponsive and injured on the road with the bicycle next to him. Detectives believe a subject traveling on an electric scooter heading southbound at around the same time may have observed what occurred.
Detectives are asking anyone who may have seen what led up to this incident to contact BSO Violent Crimes Det. Brittany Armstrong at 954-321-4242 or submit a tip through the SaferWatch app. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or online at browardcrimestoppers.org.<<
