
UPDATE 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2025: Several victims were released from hospitals overnight. Multiple agencies are investigating the incident which apparently occurred while — or just after — the boat was being fueled.
BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A boat exploded Monday evening just before 6 p.m., leaving at least 11 people seriously injured, many with burns. At least two of the injured as described as “pediatric” victims.
First responders tell BocaNewsNow.com that the explosion was called in at 5:46 p.m. The initial dispatch location: the Intracoastal Waterway at Red 24 Buoy in the 1800 Block of Southeast 12th Street in Fort Lauderdale. It is an area not far from the Lauderdale Yacht Club which is being used as a triage location. The United States Coast Guard is assisting with the rescue and recovery.
At least one injured person was flown by helicopter to the burn unit at Jackson Memorial – Ryder Trauma Center in Miami. Others were rushed to Broward Medical Center and other area hospitals. The incident was declared a “mass casualty incident.”
