A rescue operation is underway early Thursday on the Florida Turnpike near Glades Road. (FDOT).

UPDATE at 7:45 a.m. — Offical statement from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue provided to BocaNewsNow.com: “At approximately 6:20  this morning, PBCFR Units were dispatched to a reported vehicle crash call along Florida’s Turnpike near Glades Road , at approximately MM 76. Initial arriving units found a cement truck had gone off the roadway and into the canal. The rear axle of the vehicle was visible, but the front of the vehicle was completely submerged in 5-10 feet of water. PBCFR put level 2 divers (SCUBA Equipped) in the water less than 3 minutes from arrival. A search of the vehicle and surrounding area found a single occupant.  They were brought to a waiting rescue truck. That person was transported as a trauma alert to the closest Trauma Center.  FHP will be performing the crash investigation.”

UPDATE at 7:13 a.m. — The Glades Road on/off ramp is closed.

UPDATE at 7:11 a.m. — The scene continues to be active but FDOT cameras show traffic very slowly moving by the scene in the far two lanes. Major delays continue.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Expect major delays northbound on the Florida Turnpike in the area of Glades Road where a dumptruck has apparently driven into the water. The driver, according to sources, remains inside the vehicle.

A huge rescue operation started just after 6:30 Thursday morning when witnesses apparently saw the truck enter the retention pond in the area of Glades and the Florida Turnpike. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, dispatched to the scene, arrived minutes later an initiated a major rescue operation. That operation continue as a of 6:45 a.m.

While the Turnpike is not closed, expect major delays northbound in the area of Glades and the Turnpike, with backups now pushing towards Palmetto Park Road. While this is reported to be a northbound incident, gaper delays are expected as southbound traffic slows to watch what’s happening.
