UPDATE at 5:46 p.m. — The bridge just reopened to vehicular traffic.

UPDATE at 12:12 p.m. — Palm Beach County just issued this statement: “The Camino Real Bascule Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway will be closed effective immediately until further notice. We will provide updates as they become available. At this time we are still exploring a plan of action. The abrupt closure is due to machinery failure of the west bascule span. During this closure, both vehicle and pedestrian traffic will be redirected. Drivers should use E. Palmetto Park Rd. or E. Hillsboro Blvd. via Federal Highway and Ocean Boulevard for detour routes. We are committed to enhancing the safety and efficiency of the County’s infrastructure.”

UPDATE at 9:55 a.m. — The bridge is open to marine traffic, but not vehicular traffic.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The Camino Real bridge remains closed Wednesday morning following a malfunction late Tuesday afternoon. While we do not typically report issues with this bridge — which are frequent — the length of the closure is notable. The City of Boca Raton has issued at least two alerts urging motorists to stay away.

At issue: one of the gate arms either won’t open or won’t shut. Either way, the bridge can not operate until the situation is resolved. There is no indication as to when there may be a fix. City workers traditionally have bridge problems resolved in an hour or two. This problem is not one that they can quickly fix.

The Camino Real bridge spans the Intracoastal Waterway which is officially the Hillsboro River in that area. It is just south of “The Boca Raton” — formerly known as The Boca Resort.

If you’re looking for an alternate route that does not involve swimming, Palmetto Park Road and Hillsboro Boulevard are two options.
