PBSO says an employee of “Public Storage” in Boynton Beach orchestrated a nearly $100,000 theft.

BOYNTON BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Boynton Beach man is facing burglary and larceny charges after top detectives with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office say an employee of a “Public Storage” location helped him break into a private storage unit and steal stuff. Lots of stuff. $96,000 worth of stuff. It was all allegedly part of an orchestrated crime.

According to PBSO in a statement issued to BocaNewsNow.com, Latasha Barrett of Boynton Beach was an employee at the Public Storage location at 4390 Hypoluxo Road. That’s where she allegedly did something to block a customer from gaining access to the Public Storage computer system to pay for his storage unit. When the customer couldn’t log in and pay, “Public Storage” took control of the unit and prepared to auction off the contents. That’s when William Williams, of Meadows Circle in Boynton Beach, allegedly appeared at the facility. He claimed he was the owner of the unit, paid the minimal balance that the real owner couldn’t pay online, and gained access. Police allege that with Latasha Barrot’s help, William Williams stole $96,100 worth of jeans, sneakers, electronics, a couch, and more. He is allegedly seen driving up with a U-Haul truck and emptying the contents.

Within days, the true owner of the unit — who had been out of town and never received emails about his unit being set for auction, since Barrott changed the records — realized that he had been burgled and called PBSO. Detectives analyzed the video, traced the U-Haul truck, researched computer records and the credit card used by Williams to pay the balance on the storage unit that gave him access. That, and additional detective work, led police to William Williams and employee Latasha Barrott.

Both are now charged with Burglary and Larceny. They both remain held in the Palm Beach County Jail on $200,000 bond. Police say they recovered much of the stolen items. Barrott and Williams allegedly had the stolen goods in their homes.
