BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A major crash has closed the Sawgrass Expressway southbound. The crash was first reported around noon. The roadway has been shut at Oakland Park Boulevard since.
There is a multi-mile backup as of 1 p.m. Motorists are advised to avoid the Sawgrass southbound — the Florida Turnpike may be a viable option depending on your destination. The Sawgrass leads to Alligator Alley which, while always busy, is exceptionally busy on a holiday travel day.
This is the official FDOT alert: “Police activity in Broward County on Sawgrass Expressway South, at Exit 3: Oakland Park Boulevard. On-ramp closed, All lanes closed. Last updated at 11:36 AM. Road Ranger Ahead. Move Over or Slow Down.”
It was not immediately known how many vehicle are involved and the extent of injuries, if any. Check back for updates.
