Surgeon General Says Mandates “Slavery.” Education Association Says They’re Lifesaving. What do you think?

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is “crazy” and “ill-informed” according to several area teachers reaching out to BocaNewsNow.com. The strong comments come as DeSantis, and Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo, announce plans to eliminate all vaccine requirements for students in the state.
“The only teachers left will be radicalized conservatives who believe vaccines are bad, books should be banned, and Jesus should be walking in public schools like a South Park episode,” said one educator who asked to remain anonymous. “We teach kids science. The Governor teaches fiction.”
DeSantis and Ladapo made the announcement Wednesday. It drew immediate rebuke from the Florida Education Association which represents 120,000 teachers and educators statewide.
“Florida leaders claim to care about students but silence experts and take actions that make schools less safe. They claim to care about educators but refuse to pay them fairly,” said Spokesperson Autumn Bell. “They claim to care about communities but put profit ahead of people at every turn. So, the question is: Is this really about keeping students safe, or is this simply about playing politics?”
Students in Florida public schools, including Palm Beach County, are required to be vaccinated for measles, polio, chicken pox, and more. Ladapo equated those vaccine mandates to “slavery.”
”Every last one drips with disdain and slavery,” said Ladapo, who called mandates “immoral.”
Under Florida statute, the Florida Governor has limited ability to remove vaccine mandates. A sweeping elimination would have to be approved by lawmakers. While the house and senate are Republican-run, DeSantis has received significant pushback lately from members of his own party.
”When leaders talk about pulling back vaccines, they’re talking about disrupting student learning and making schools less safe,” said FEA Spokesperson Bell. “State leaders say they care about reducing chronic absenteeism and keeping kids in school—but reducing vaccinations does the opposite, putting our children’s health and education at risk.”

Careful parents will listen to their pediatrician. Other parents are already opting out for religious reasons.
I think it’s stupid as well.
I think it’s time to move
Can anyone direct me to any resources to when or how or why Vaccine opposition became so in vogue?
I agree with Jean. Normal and responsible parents will follow their doctors advice. Once your child is vaccinated your child is safe. This will not make a difference. Political grandstanding at best. Now lets get rid of property tax mandates and HOA mandates.
Parents should make the best decision possible for their own kids. It should not be forced, and if your kid is vaccinated, then the unvaccinated shouldn’t affect them. Its always “my body, my choice” until it goes against one viewpoint.
Charles is obviously not a doctor and does not understand herd immunity. I’m guessing Charles is against women having control of their bodies.
The anonymous educator is correct, and our educational system is going the way of New Mexico and Oklahoma – dead last.
Without mandated vaccines, kids will get sick and diseases will spread even faster. For proof, check out Texas and their measles outbreak. Another deep red (MAGA-Republican) state that isn’t paying attention to actual accredited and educated experts. We need vaccine mandates without (or tightened) religious exemptions (want your child to meet your deity faster, homeschool or put child in private religious school without vaccine mandates).
They aren’t genuine vaccines.. The shots are only called that because it allows legal protection for the companies who make them so those who became seriously ill or next of kin who had others die from them can not be taken to court. To truly be a vaccine, it must go through 3 years of proper testing.. The stuff everyone put into their bodies was tested for 3-4 months. And of all statistical age groups, children were least likely to get covid. I’m very thankful DeSantis was not a draconian monster of a Governor like in so many blue states where they tried to create a two-tier society where your rights and liberties were based on ID cards like the evil 1930s Germany did..
Typical hyperbolic MAGA follower.
I have an idea. If your kid isn’t vaccinated and gets sick, don’t go to a doctor or hospital and waste public resources Just pray for healing.
I agree with you. There is now enough valid evidence of vaccine injury due to the forced vaccine mandates during the pandemic. I applaud those who were strong enough to refuse the vaccine. It didn’t do any of the things they promised. It did, however, make alot of people sick.
The parents who do not vaccinate their children do not have the necessary education to understand the consequences of this action. It only takes one child to get polio etc. to spread to many children and led to death and/or horrible handicaps. The ignorance of our governor is both pathetic and dangerous.
Medical science has helped keep millions of us from contracting many serious diseases. The ignorance and arrogance of our governor is disgraceful.
So why do other industrialized countries that don’t mandate vaccines have less outbreaks of diseases once thought to be eradicated?
Eliminate vaccine mandates. What a waste of time. We lived for centuries without this. Healthy happy and intelligent. ? Vaccine will improve students attendance ? That’s laughable !!
I’m 90…I was first vaccinated with polio when Jonas Salk invented the vaccine and it was put out there. . As a child I had measles, mumps, chicken pox and whooping cough. Fortunately vaccines were available when I had my 9 kids who were fully vaccinated and didn’t have to go through those diseases. Their children as fully vaccinated as well. It’s called preventive medicine. Maybe DeSatan and that Lapadummy guy should have schools for vaccinated and schools for unvaccinated. My question is, Why would a caring parent not take advantage of vaccinations? I think after 75 years vaccinations have done nothing but improve. They have taken the test..
Thank you, Joanne, for sharing your story – these men are playing games with our children’s health and future. We are going backwards!
I disagree with DeSantis and lapdo
Children need to be vaccinated. I am a conservative Republican and I would not send my child to school with students that have not been vaccinated!
This is a moronic decision by Gov. DeSantis!
I am so grateful I do not have children in any Florida school. This is horrible!
For the individual who wanted to know when vaccine resistance began…in 2007, when Hollywood star Jenny McCarthy maintained that vaccines caused autism in her young son and she was on Oprah Winfrey and other daytime talk shows. This started a total movement of other concerned parents with autistic children.
This news is very disconcerting… we had our shots (baby boomers)…as well as when my son was born, he received all the shots as recommended by his pediatrician. Thankfully, we are all healthy.
