Under Cover Of Darkness, With FHP On Scene. Ordered By Gov. Ron DeSantis.

DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The pride intersection in Delray Beach was paved over by the Florida Department of Transportation early Tuesday morning. The City of Delray Beach, according to sources, was not notified that the pave-over would take place. Ironically, heavy rain after the FDOT-effort washed away part of the paving — revealing the rainbow colors that were visible just hours earlier.
“Queer Pride is showing through the destruction,” said Rand Hoch, President and Founder of the Palm Beach County Human Rights Council (PBCHRC).”
The paving, allegedly ordered by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, follows the same action taken in Orlando — outside the gay Pulse Nightclub which was the scene of a massacre in 2016 where 49 people were shot and killed.
Delray Beach was awaiting a decision from an FDOT “informal hearing” held on September 2 on the fate of the Pride Intersection when the DeSantis Administration took action. State Officials, possibly violating Florida law, initiated the paving even though the City filed a Motion to Disqualify the FDOT hearing officer for bias.
The City also had requested a formal hearing with the opportunity to present witnesses and expert testimony.
“While the state’s directive to remove the Pride Intersection was being challenged administratively, the State of Florida had no legal right to pant over the Pride intersection,” said Hoch.
“Before dawn on September 9, 2025, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) unilaterally removed the Delray Beach Pride Intersection. Less than 12 hours before, the City of Delray Beach received an order directing the CITY to remove this symbol of inclusion. This immediate action by FDOT did not allow the city commission the opportunity to review the order as an elected government body and decide how to move forward,” wrote the City of Delray Beach on its official website.
“By acting outside of its process, FDOT disregarded the City’s good-faith efforts to follow established procedures. While FDOT’s action cannot be undone, Delray Beach remains steadfast in its commitment to unity, respect, and the fundamental human rights that belong to every member of our community.”
There has been no statement from the office of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, FHP, or the Florida Department of Transportation.

DeSantis keeps trying to be a mini-Trump, but it isn’t working.
And, why are Trump, DeSantis, and conservatives so afraid of gays, trans, immigrants, etc.? I don’t see the threat.
Let’s replace it with the American Flag. It’s tragic that our country is has little pride with our country. Get rid of drag shows for kids as well. The indoctrination going on with our children is going way overboard.
Good , no need for these pride colored streets!
Once again big State government overrules local government on local issues.
Good.. Its a political flag with a specific woke poison agenda behind it. Even if it was a flag of the Dolphins, taxpayers shouldn’t have their money spent to display it.. They’re not exceptional.. no group is
The rainbow is not washing away! It was much nicer before you messed it up
Good for FDOT! It should have never been painted rainbow!
Great, now fix all the potholes and vandalized street signs covered in stickers.
I’m a longtime resident of Delray Beach over 35 years and I don’t think the City should be paying for or hiring an attorney to Sue. It’s public property and should not be there. There are plenty of places in the city of Delray Beach had plenty of organizations that support pride that a mural can be put on that would not be on public property or a street. I even read of a young lady that’s willing to paint a bureau on a building. What’s next a BLM Street maybe one for Muslims how about Jews? It’s inappropriate to be on a public street. They want to paint an American flag there that be different. They want to paint a sign that says Delray Beach All American city that would be fine but not something political whatever your policies might be they belong on private property of which there are plenty and plenty of organizations in the city of Delray Beach to donate space. And not use public money. Maybe they can take some of that money and put it towards a new fire truck that we now have to buy thanks to lax policies by the last board.
This is complete state overreach. In addition, it ignores the fact that independent of the state’s battle against “woke,” it also completely ignores the fact that pavement art makes the intersection safer. This is not only proven by research but also by the safety stats from this intersection. FDOT doesn’t care about safety, however. The majority of fatalities in Florida occur on FDOT designed roads. The state is demonstrating once again that human lives do not matter.
