Palm Beach County Fire Rescue rushed to the report of a car in the water on Military Trail near 18th Street in Boca Raton.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Palm Beach County Fire Rescue rushed to the area of the 22000 block of South Military Trail around 11:30 this morning for the report of a car sinking in a canal.

First arriving rescuers found a car with its trunk open below the water line. A diver immediately entered the water to rescue anyone who might be trapped inside. But within moments, it became clear that the sinking vehicle was empty — and no one connected to the vehicle was found nearby.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue tells BocaNewsNow.com that the scene was turned over to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office which is now investigating the car, why it was in the water, who it belonged to, and whether or not it’s part of a larger situation.

We note that Palm Beach County Fire Rescue was in the water just moments after arriving on the scene — making it one of the fastest-responding dive response teams in the country. We’ll update our reporting if PBSO learns anything about the vehicle during its investigation.
