BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Pompano Beach man faces a felony charge after Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives say he struck and killed a bicyclist with his vehicle and fled the scene earlier this month. The driver was located and arrested just hours after the Oct. 12 crash, according to investigators.
The crash occurred just before 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12, on North Palm Aire Drive. Investigators said the bicyclist, identified as Joseph Henriquez, was traveling westbound in the median break when he was struck from behind by a 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer, also traveling westbound. The impact threw Henriquez into the eastbound lanes. He was transported to Broward Health North, where he died from his injuries on Oct. 13.
Authorities said the driver of the Trailblazer, later identified as Sholom Marcus, initially continued westbound after the collision, returned briefly to the crash scene, and then fled the area. BSO deputies searching the vicinity later located the vehicle at 3621 Oaks Clubhouse Dr. According to the sheriff’s office, Marcus admitted to driving the Trailblazer and knowing he had been involved in the crash.
Marcus was initially arrested on Oct. 12 and charged with failing to stop or remain at an accident involving serious bodily injury. Following Henriquez’s death, that charge was upgraded to leaving the scene of a crash involving death. The Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
