BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Another reminder to homeowners who live in communities with homeowner associations: paying your dues, assessments, and other fees is not optional in the State of Florida. The latest example: Deborah Weiss of Coco Pointe 2 in Boca Chase. Her HOA just launched foreclosure proceedings against her over a relatively small amount of money.
According to the complaint filed in Palm Beach County Circuit Court and obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, Weiss has failed to pay several assessments and was late paying others. Her total balance due as of the filing of the lien of foreclosure: $1,147.06. The Palm Beach County Property Appraiser says her her home is worth $267,937. She purchased it in 2019 for $319,000.
Monthly assessments varied from $55 to $65 over the past two years, and many of them allegedly went unpaid. That led to late fees, collection fees, and ultimately attorney fees. All acceptable under Florida Statute. When you purchase a home in a community governed by an association, you contractually agree to pay fees, assessments, and more. You can’t “opt out.”
The Boca Chase Property Owners’ Association is represented by Wasserstein P.A. of Boca Raton. No counsel is listed for Deborah West-Weiss.
