The fatal collision occurred at approximately 7:22 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18, in the 1200 block of South Powerline Road. The Broward Sheriff’s Office identified the motorcycle driver as 21-year-old Simon Dias Do Santos of Coconut Creek. His juvenile female passenger was not named.
According to BSO’s Traffic Homicide Investigation unit, 65-year-old Douglas Hall of Nebraska was driving a 2025 Nissan Rogue southbound on South Powerline Road. Detectives say Hall attempted to make a U-turn to head northbound. As he initiated the turn, his car was struck on the rear passenger side by the 2002 Honda motorcycle, which was traveling northbound.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue transported Santos, his passenger, and two passengers from the Rogue to an area hospital. Santos was transported with life-threatening injuries and pronounced dead at 7:53 p.m. that night. The juvenile passenger was listed in critical condition and later died from her injuries on Saturday, Oct. 25. The two passengers in Hall’s vehicle suffered injuries described as not life-threatening.
Detectives are investigating the crash and noted that excessive speed on the part of the motorcycle driver is being considered as a contributing factor. According to investigators, witnesses traveling northbound said Santos was “traveling at a high rate of speed” just before the collision. Driver impairment is not believed to be a factor. The investigation continues.
