UPDATE From BSO: Broward Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit detectives are on scene conducting a shooting investigation on I-95 north near Palmetto Park Road and Hillsboro. According to investigators, a subject has been detained and paramedics transported a man to a hospital with serious injuries. The report of the incident came shortly after 5:30 p.m. Florida Highway Patrol requested assistance from Boca Raton Police Department and the Broward Sheriff’s Office in this incident. BSO is the lead investigative agency and detectives are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident. Motorists should avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

UPDATE: 5:40 p.m. — FHP just told us that the Broward Sheriff’s Office is now the lead agency on this case. That suggests that the shooting actually took place in Broward County even though the victim called 9-1-1 from I-95 in Boca Raton. We are awaiting information from BSO.

UPDATE at 4:48 p.m. — Florida Highway Patrol is now the lead agency investigating the shooting. Sources say that the shooter may have been in a box truck. The scene is still active on I-95.

BocaNewsNow.com has learned the victim — believed to be in his 20s — called 911 after he was shot. It’s unclear what led to the shooting or whether it was from a passing vehicle. The man was rushed to Delray Medical Center. Sources say he was conscious and alert.

I-95 is not completely shut down but experiencing huge slowdowns as a result of the incident which is northbound, just south of Palmetto Park Road.
