DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Margate woman is facing felony child neglect and enhanced DUI charges after Delray Beach Police allegedly found her driving drunk with a young child improperly secured in the front seat. Almendra Pamela Llerena, 31, was arrested after the traffic stop that started around 8:45 p.m. on October 23rd after an officer reportedly saw her run a steady red light on West Atlantic Avenue. Police say Llerena then made an unsafe lane change before being pulled over on the northbound entrance ramp to I-95.
According to the arrest report, the responding officer immediately noticed a 6-year-old child sitting in the front passenger seat without a booster seat. The child’s seatbelt was allegedly worn improperly, with the shoulder strap tucked behind their back, despite a child seat being available in the rear of the vehicle. The officer also spotted an open can of “White Claw Surge 8% ABV” in the center console, within reach of the child, and detected a “strong odor” of alcohol coming from Llerena.
Police said Llerena agreed to perform roadside sobriety tasks but showed significant signs of impairment, exhibiting all six clues on the eye-tracking (HGN) test. During the walk-and-turn task, she allegedly could not maintain the starting position and “became hysterical and was unable to follow any further instructions.” Llerena was taken into custody and later provided two breath samples at a testing facility, registering 0.143 and 0.138—well above Florida’s 0.08 legal limit and the 0.15 threshold for an enhanced charge.

A search of Llerena’s Toyota Camry reportedly uncovered a glass pipe and 3.07 grams of marijuana in the driver’s door panel, along with an empty THC-labeled container in the center console. Llerena allegedly admitted to officers she had been drinking White Claws since 10:30 a.m. and had also smoked marijuana. Police noted she claimed to be driving home to Margate, which is south, despite being on a northbound I-95 ramp. Llerena was booked on four charges: DUI with a passenger under 18 and a BAL over.15, felony child neglect without great harm, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
