The fatal collision occurred just before 8 p.m. in the 2400 block of 10th Avenue North.
According to investigators, the bicyclist, Carlos Vivar, 47, was riding eastbound on the north side of 10th Avenue North, approaching the entrance to a plaza. At the same time, a 2016 Kenworth tractor, driven by 39-year-old Yunior Bermudez Cantillo of Port St. Lucie, was traveling westbound and began a northbound turn into the same plaza.
Investigators stated that Cantillo failed to observe Vivar while making the turn. The front of the tractor struck the right side of the bicycle, ejecting Vivar onto the driveway. The report also noted that the bicycle Vivar was operating “did not have a functional front lamp” and that Vivar was not wearing any safety equipment.
After the initial collision, the tractor-trailer drove over Vivar. He was pronounced deceased on the scene at 8:04 p.m. The driver of the tractor, Cantillo, was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
