BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — An alleged joking gesture turned into a felony arrest in Boca Raton after a construction worker was accused of holding a pocketknife to his colleague’s throat. Craig Michael Johnson, 55, of Opa-locka, was taken into custody by the Boca Raton Police Department on November 17th and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail following the incident, which reportedly occurred at a job site in the 7200 block of North Dixie Highway.

According to the arrest report just obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, Johnson and the victim, both employees of General Asphalt, arrived at the work site shortly after 9 a.m. The victim told police that after he instructed Johnson to unload some signs from their truck, Johnson exited the vehicle brandishing a black pocketknife. The victim alleges that Johnson first pointed the knife at his ribs before pressing it against his throat. Terrified, the victim told officers he feared for his life and believed Johnson intended to kill him during the encounter.

In a bizarre twist, the two men continued to travel together after the alleged assault. The victim told investigators that despite his fear, he rode in the truck with Johnson back to a CVS at 202 West Yamato Road. He explained to police that he wanted to return to a crowded, public area to ensure his safety before calling 911.

Upon arrival at the CVS, the victim was reportedly found crying and suffering from a panic attack, requiring assessment by Boca Raton Fire Rescue personnel.

When questioned by police, Johnson claimed the entire interaction was a misunderstanding between friends who frequently joke around. He admitted to pulling out the knife and placing it against the victim’s throat but insisted he used the “back side” of the blade and had no intention of causing harm. Johnson expressed confusion over the police response, stating he did not realize his coworker was genuinely afraid. Officers recovered the knife from a supervisor at the scene. Johnson was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail and later released on $20,000 bond.
