TRAFFIC ALERT: FLORIDA TURNPIKE SHUT IN BROWARD COUNTY

The Florida Turnpike is completely closed southbound in the area of Sunrise Boulevard as of 5;55 a.m. Friday, December 5, 2025. (FDOT).

UPDATE AT 7:35 a.m. — The Turnpike appears to be back to normal. For rush hour.

UPDATE AT 6:31 a.m. — FDOT reports that the police activity at Sunrise Boulevard has concluded so those lanes have reopened, BUT the situation just south — at MM55 — continues, where at least the left lane is closed. That continues to create big traffic problems.

UPDATE AT 6:13 a.m. — FDOT now reports a major crash at Mile Marker 55 on the southbound Florida Turnpike. It’s unclear if the two incidents are related, but note that even if you get past the situation at Sunrise, you’re going to get right back into another. FDOT reports a second “complete closure” southbound at MM55.

The closure, in the area of Sunrise Boulevard, is creating huge backups already that appear to span for several miles. The cause of the closure is listed as “police activity.” We are awaiting further details.

FDOT cameras in the area show significant traffic issues. The incident location is technically “mile marker 58.” The onramp to Sunrise Boulevard is also completely closed.
