Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport is issuing a series of advisories for travelers.

BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is issuing a critical set of roadway and travel advisories as it prepares for a surge in holiday traffic. Officials are urging travelers and those picking up passengers to avoid parking on entrance roadways or emergency shoulders, as these areas must remain clear for safety. Instead, the airport recommends utilizing the free Cellphone Waiting Area or nearby aircraft observation zones, such as Greenbelt Park on Griffin Road, to wait for arriving flights.

To further ease congestion at the terminal, FLL is highlighting a 20-minute grace period in its on-site parking garages, allowing for free short-term access if drivers arrive close to their passenger’s landing time. For those dealing with heavy traffic, airport staff suggest switching between the upper-level Departures and lower-level Arrivals roadways to find the least congested path. Travelers are also encouraged to use alternative transportation methods, including ride-shares, taxis, or public transit, to minimize the number of vehicles entering the terminal loops.

If the airport’s three on-site garages and valet services reach maximum capacity during peak holiday hours, an official overflow lot will be opened. Drivers should look for orange wayfinding signs that lead to this off-site location and are advised to factor in significant additional time for parking and taking the shuttle back to the terminals. Pedestrians are reminded to strictly adhere to crosswalk traffic signals, while drivers are cautioned that stopping in moving lanes at the curb is prohibited and impedes the flow of movement.

Airport officials recommend that all travelers stay connected for real-time updates on roadway status and traffic management initiatives. Updates are posted regularly on overhead digital signs and the airport’s official social media accounts on X and Facebook. By following these protocols, including using elevators or escalators to move between levels and respecting designated pick-up lanes, passengers can help ensure a safer and more efficient travel experience throughout the holiday season.
