BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Deerfield Beach man is behind bars Wednesday following a July 2025 crash that claimed the life of an electric scooter rider in Boca Raton. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division arrested John Arthur Adams and charged him with Vehicular Homicide. The arrest stems from a late-night collision on Sandalfoot Boulevard that investigators have spent months reconstructing.
We first reported on the crash hours after it ocurred — just after 11 p.m. on July 16, 2025, near the 10520 block of Sandalfoot Boulevard. According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Adams was behind the wheel of a 2024 Chevrolet Trax traveling westbound when his vehicle drifted across the center turn lane and into the eastbound lane. The Chevy moved directly into the path of 28-year-old Alexander Daniel Acevedo, who was operating an Aovopro e-scooter in the opposite direction.
Investigators say that the front passenger side of the Chevrolet struck the scooter, ejecting Acevedo and vaulting him into the air. Acevedo landed on the northern shoulder of the road, while the e-scooter was shattered into several pieces. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue responded to the scene, but Acevedo’s injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced deceased at 11:25 p.m..
While Adams and a passenger in the Chevrolet were not injured in the collision, the subsequent investigation led authorities to file formal homicide charges this week. Court records indicate that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash investigation involving Adams.
