BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — It’s Daylight Saving Time! Tonight is the night you set your clocks ahead by one hour, as DST officially goes into effect at 2 a.m.
The change — which is often discussed, disputed, determined to be both effective stupid simultaneously, has been a way of life since 1918. There is no indication that it’s going to be wiped from the books. Standard time returns in in November.
Here are key milestones in the history of Daylight Saving Time, if you care. If not, move on to another story:
- 1918 – The U.S. first adopted Daylight Saving Time through the Standard Time Act of 1918 to conserve fuel during the war.
- 1919 – It was repealed nationally after the war, although some cities kept using it.
- 1942–1945 – During World War II, the U.S. used year-round DST, called “War Time.”
- 1966 – The Uniform Time Act standardized DST across the country so states followed the same schedule.
- 2007 – The schedule was extended by the Energy Policy Act of 2005, creating the modern pattern.
The most important takeaway: If you’re flying on Sunday, the airline is NOT going to wait for you because you forgot to change your clock.
