The Assistant State Attorney assigned to the Mitchell Schuman prosecution has apparently not filed paperwork more than ten days after the alleged child battery.

BY: ANDREW COLTON | Editor and Publisher | BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — It’s been more than ten days since the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office arrested MItchell Schuman — the Lotus Boca Raton resident who is seemingly caught on video throwing a water bottle at a child and taking his cell phone. Despite PBSO telling BocaNewsNow.com that the agency charged Schuman with battery and theft, the office of State Attorney Alexcia Cox has yet to file any paperwork with the Palm Beach County Clerk of Courts. In a county where arrest reports are often filed within hours, and arrestees appear before a judge within a day, the more than ten day delay for two alleged crimes involving a child is notable.

BocaNewsNow.com learned that the case was assigned to Assistant State Attorney Michael Kridos nearly a week ago. But Kridos has yet to contact the parents of the child victim, or to actually file the case with the Palm Beach County Clerk of Courts. Kridos did not respond to an email from BocaNewsNow.com seeking explanation or clarification. A spokesperson from Alexica Cox’s office also did not respond to a request for explanation.

In video we previously published, watch as Mitchell Schuman appears to throw a water bottle at a young child riding an e-bike in the West Boca Raton community of Lotus.

As we reported exclusively, Mitchell Schuman was given a “notice to appear” on a charge of simple battery following the incident in Lotus — a community of $1M+ homes — on Good Friday. However, detectives from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office — initially unaware of video published by BocaNewsNow.com — later dropped the lesser charge and filed new charges against Schuman of battery and theft. Each charge carries a potential sentence of one year in jail. Even with a “notice to appear,” multiple sources tell BocaNewsNow.com that Schuman’s case should have been filed with the county clerk within days — leading to an initial arraignment. But despite the seriousness of battery on a child and theft, the case has yet to be filed with and processed by the Clerk of Courts.

Several adults are seen restraining the child after Schuman allegedly took his cell phone, preventing the boy from calling his parents or police. The investigation into the other adults apparently remains open.

Mitchell Schuman is accused of throwing a water bottle at a young child who he claimed was performing “wheelies” on an e-bike in the Lotus community. Schuman is then accused of taking the child’s phone — preventing him from calling his parents or police. BocaNewsNow.com routinely reports on people arrested for that act alone — it is illegal to deprive someone of their communication device in the State of Florida. Schuman, not a lawyer but a legal professional whose biography has been stripped from his New York law firm’s website, allegedly taunted this child before. We published a series of text messages that he allegedly sent about an incident with the boy in December. Read all of our previous Lotus coverage here.

It remains unclear why the State Attorney’s Office appears to be slow-rolling a case against a legal profesional in a high-end Boca Raton community. The parents of the child victim say they are baffled that Schuman wasn’t handcuffed on the spot and that no one who works with victims has reached out from the State Attorney’s Office to check on their child’s wellbeing.

Meantime, BocaNewsNow.com has learned that the investigation continues into the other adults seen on the video, especially those seen physically restraining the boy as he attempted to retrive his cell phone from Schuman.
