BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The School District of Palm Beach County is expected to make a significant change to its calendar — adding a holiday that several private schools in area observe but the school district does not.
The school board is expected to approve a proposal to officially close on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, in observance of Veterans Day. The change would give students, teachers, and staff the opportunity to participate in community commemorations honoring the service of military veterans.

The proposal also includes a shift of a Professional Development Day, moving it from Wednesday, February 24, 2027, to Monday, February 15, 2027 — Presidents’ Day. Under the revised calendar, students would have no school on that Monday, aligning the district schedule with a widely recognized federal holiday. The change is designed to reduce mid-week disruptions for families while maintaining required teacher work and professional development obligations.

While the modifications were framed as an effort to better align the school schedule with traditional holidays observed by students, families, and district staff — there is one change that is not set to take place. The Palm Beach County School District is still set to remain closed on Monday, January 4th, after the lengthy winter break. The bizarre policy forces parents and guardians to scramble for day care while teachers spend a day getting ready to teach — after being off for two weeks.
