Three bodies were found in a Parkland canal after an incident in Sunrise.

PARKLAND, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Two people are dead after a car fleeing Sunrise police plunged into a canal in Parkland Friday night, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said. Detectives with the BSO Traffic Homicide Unit are now investigating the fatal single-vehicle crash, which occurred April 17 in the area of Nob Hill Road and Loxahatchee Road.

According to investigators who issued a statement to BocaNewsNow.com, a 2025 BMW X1 was initially fleeing Sunrise Police Department in connection with an incident in their jurisdiction. The officer pursuing the vehicle lost sight of it near a roundabout and T-intersection on Loxahatchee Road — and when they returned to search the area, they found the BMW submerged in a canal on the north side of the road. Sunrise police arrested the driver, identified as Anthony Davis, 26, of Plantation, a short time later.

Two passengers — Jerome Turner, 32, and Kelby Broward-Richardson, 31 — could not be located in the immediate aftermath of the crash, leaving investigators uncertain whether they were still in the canal or had fled on foot. BSO launched an extensive search effort involving Aviation, K-9, Drone, and Dive Team units. Late Friday evening, both men were found dead in the canal by BSO divers.

Investigators say excessive speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. The investigation is continuing.
