The Florida Office of Air Monitoring report that air quality in much of Palm Beach County is fine, despite a huge brush fire in the Everglades.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Air quality in Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, and much of Palm Beach County remains fine despite the huge brush fire that continues to burn in Broward County. The scale runs from 0-500 with 500 being the worst. Area readings are largely under 30.

The 11,000-acre (as of 6 pm) “Max Road Fire” in Miramar has been burning for a few days. It is deep in the Everglades. While there is potential exposure to the Krome Avenue Detention Center and a fish camp, residential areas are largely safe at this point. There is no real concern of it moving into populated portions of Palm Beach County.

The good news: rain is in the forecast. The bad news: this time of year, rain often comes with lightning which is not good for fighting — or preventing — brush fires.

While there is no burn ban in effect, anyone using an open flame is strongly encouraged to extra precautions. The ground is very dry and it takes very little to spark a flame that becomes a major fire.
