BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — South Florida is in for a warm, breezy and at times unsettled stretch through Memorial Day weekend and into next week, with rain chances climbing sharply by the end of the week.

The National Weather Service forecast calls for a slight chance of late-night showers and thunderstorms tonight, with overnight lows near 80 degrees and a southeast breeze around 14 mph. Sunday turns mostly sunny with a high near 86, breezy southeast winds gusting to 23 mph, and a 20 percent chance of storms between late morning and late afternoon.

Memorial Day itself looks like a beach day for most of South Palm Beach County. Forecasters expect sunny skies, a high near 87 and a breezy southeast wind gusting up to 24 mph. There is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 p.m., but the bulk of the holiday should stay dry.

The pattern stays warm and breezy through Tuesday, with highs in the mid-80s and overnight lows hovering near 80. Rain chances begin to climb Tuesday night at 40 percent, then jump to 50 percent on Wednesday as moisture builds across the region.

By Thursday and Friday, expect showers and thunderstorms

, with some storms capable of producing heavy rainfall. Highs will hold in the mid-80s with rain chances running 60 to 70 percent both days.
