BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A southbound semi truck loaded with appliances slammed into and rolled over the center concrete barrier on Interstate 95 in Boca Raton early Monday morning, shutting down all lanes in both directions at Mile Marker 48 and triggering a hazardous diesel fuel spill that closed the highway for hours.
FHP tells BocaNewsNow.com that the crash happened around 2 a.m. when the commercial vehicle struck the center wall and an overhead message board support, overturning so violently that its trailer landed on its right side, perpendicular to traffic and blocking all southbound express lanes and the inside general purpose lane. The truck’s cab and its components were scattered across every northbound lane, and a Kia Soul then collided with the underside of the overturned trailer in the southbound express lanes. Two additional collisions occurred in the immediate area, and several hundred gallons of diesel fuel spilled across the southbound express lanes and all northbound lanes, prompting notification to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
The driver of the commercial vehicle was transported to Delray Medical Center as a trauma alert and is in stable condition. No other serious injuries have been reported. Boca Raton Police blocked the entrance ramps from Glades Road and Yamato Road, while FAU Police shut down the southbound entrance ramp from Spanish River Road. Northbound traffic was diverted onto Glades Road, southbound traffic was rerouted to Yamato Road, and power to the overhead sign was cut after its lines became tangled in the wreckage of the truck cab.
By 3:40 a.m., the northbound and southbound outside lanes briefly reopened to let stopped traffic flow through before FDOT closed them again to facilitate cleanup on both sides of the northbound lanes. As of 5:33 a.m., the northbound general purpose lanes have reopened, but the northbound express and all southbound lanes remain closed as crews work to remove the wrecked commercial vehicle.
